Nebbiolo is one of the most noble and precious grapes of Italy. The name comes from “fog”: it is unclear whether because of its berries covered with abundant bloom that seem so “foggy”, or because the late-ripening grape harvest goes to the rise of the first autumn mists. Also referred to as the “queen of the red grapes”, the Nebbiolo prefers calcareous and tuffaceous terrain; need of care careful and laborious and it is very demanding in terms of location and exposure of the soil . Over the centuries, its cultivation has experienced periods of splendor and obfuscation but has never been abandoned by virtue of the very high quality wines made from it. This vine sprouts early, usually in the second half of April and ripens quite late compared to others in the first half of October. Quite sensitive to sudden temperature, takes advantage of fluctuations between day and night during maturation. But the richness of tannins of its skin requires positioned hills filled with natural light. Preferably south or south-west, between 200 and 450 m. above sea level, protected from frost and cold spring.
